Weak Pelvic Floor Symptoms Females Experience

There are several common weak pelvic floor symptoms. These include symptoms related to urination, pain in certain areas, issues with your bowels, and discomfort during intercourse. Let’s review these in detail now.

Symptoms Related to Urination

One of the most common types of weak pelvic floor symptoms is the type related to urination. If your urination has been painful recently or you have an uncontrollable urge to urinate, this is a sign. If you accidentally leak urine when you sneeze or exercise, this is also a sign.

Other issues might include having to urinate often or having to rush to urinate, sometimes not getting to the bathroom on time. If you lose any type of control over your ability to urinate, this is a sign of a weak pelvic floor.

Pain in Certain Areas

You might be experiencing pain in certain areas related to your pelvic floor muscles. This could include muscle spasms in your pelvis, lower back pain, or pain in your rectum, genitals, or the general pelvic region. Pressure in your rectum or pelvic area is another sign.

Issues With Your Bowels

You may also be experiencing issues with your bowels. This can include bowel strains, constipation, losing control of your bowels, or accidentally passing gas. These are unpleasant symptoms that may cause you to see treatment for a weak pelvic floor.

Discomfort

Finally, many women who have a weak pelvic floor experience discomfort. They might even feel pain. Even though this is a very common issue, it can be uncomfortable both physically and emotionally.

Treating Weak Pelvic Floor Symptoms

If you suspect that you have a weak pelvic floor, then we have some pelvic floor advice you can follow. Make sure, whatever you choose to do, that you speak with your doctor first to be sure it isn’t another issue causing these symptoms.

They may also recommend some specific therapies, exercises, or medications for you.

This said, one of the best and most common treatments for a weak pelvic floor is doing Kegel exercises.

Kegel Prep

To do Kegel exercises properly, get in the position you prefer, and focus on the muscles of your pelvic floor. You don’t want to hold your breath or flex your abdominal muscles at all. You want to feel relaxed while you do this.

Now, move your pelvic floor muscles the way you would if you wanted to stop yourself from urinating or passing gas. Squeeze the muscles and lift upward. Once you’ve tightened them, release them slowly and gently.

The Kegel Exercise

Now you’re ready to do the full exercise. Squeeze at a slow pace, and then hold the muscles firmly in place between 5 and 10 seconds. Then, release the muscles slowly. You should do this exercise around 10 times, relaxing between 5 and 10 seconds between each.

Next, there’s a faster exercise where you do strong, short, quick squeezes. Do this 10 times.

Additionally, anytime you cough, sneeze, or clear your throat, squeeze too.
